Clik here to view.Shreveport Times – The nonprofit that erected the Confederate monument at the Caddo courthouse is seeking donations to appeal a federal judge’s ruling that parish government can remove the monument.
Dick Knadler, attorney for the Shreveport chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, told the Associated Press Thursday that the nonprofit would appeal the ruling in the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans.
Knadler declined to speak to a Times reporter Thursday when asked about the case. Brenda O’Brock, a member of the United Daughters, said the group was accepting donations for the appeal. Federal court filings Friday morning show no appeal had been filed.
Krystle Grindley, parish spokesperson, said no plans to move the monument have been discussed since the ruling.
U.S. District Judge Robert G. James on Wednesday dismissed the lawsuit filed by the United Daughters. The organization filed suit against the parish commission following a close vote to remove the monument in October.
